“Easy Rider” Reflection
I thought the movie was interesting, even though I did not enjoy its contents. I think during the time it was made, it was an envelope pushing film. I know the sixties were the begining of free sex, drugs and rock and roll, the movie definitely portrayed each categorie. I was fortunate to watch this film of dvd and listened to the cast/directors commentary. At that point, I began to understand more to the meaning of the film. Hopper and Fonda were looking to rise up against the rest of the film community and show their ability to create. They saved on cost by acting and directing as well as having friends do most of the filming with personal cameras. For example the scene at Mardi Gras was filmed by six of their friends, they figured everyone would all ready be in “costume” and they would again save on cost. As I said before, I did not like the movie but I see the point trying to be made. Hopper and Fonda were two “new age” actors/directors and this film changed the way hollywood produced its movies. As for the text, I too found the production code interesting. It definitely opened the door to free speech and this movie is a direct response.
